Improving the justice system’s response to DFV- the Southport specialist DFV Court experience. What’s next?

Join WA Family Law Pathways Network as we present colleagues from Southport Family Violence. Featuring presentations from: 

Magistrate Colin Strofield, specialist domestic and family violence (DFV) Magistrate. Magistrate Strofield commenced as presiding Magistrate at the start of the specialist DFV Court trial at Southport on 1 September 2015. Magistrate Strofield was appointed as a Magistrate in March 2008. Following a period in the Brisbane Magistrates Court he transferred to the Charleville Magistrates Court for two years. In April 2011 he was transferred to the Holland Park Magistrates Court. Prior to his appointment he was the legal advisor to the Queensland Commissioner of the Police Service for 13 years. 

Ms Natalie Parker, Director of DFV Court Reform, Magistrates Courts Service in the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG), Queensland. Ms Parker practised as a social worker and as a solicitor before becoming a policy officer with the Queensland Government. She has worked for DJAG since the early 2000s and led the development of legal frameworks for Victim Assist Queensland and the Public Guardian. She was previously the DJAG Director of Child Safety. Natalie is a member of the DFV Death Review and Advisory Board as well as the Child Death and Serious Injury Review Committee. Natalie is the ex-officio representative of DJAG on the DFV Implementation Council, which was established to monitor and champion the implementation of the recommendations of the Not Now, Not Ever: Putting an End to DFV in Queensland report and the Queensland DFV Prevention Strategy. 

Plus a panel discussion featuring Magistrate Brian Gluestein (Fremantle and Perth Family Violence Lists), Yasmin Gunn (Project Manager, Domestic and Family Violence Court Reform, Magistrates Courts Service) and Paula Bould (Deputy Court Registrar, Southport FV Court, lead on Southport FV Court Registry).
